There is only one answer to this question. There is no doubt we live in a world where you can be connected 24/7, but can you disconnect? And for how long?

Studies have shown that people who limit themselves to checking their email once or twice daily are able to stay focused and concentrate on tasks  for longer periods of time. We believe this because we deal with it first hand. There is nothing worse than being on a roll and *ding* – email notification! But we have no choice, as social media managers we have chosen this constant interruption as a daily routine.

I would have spent more time on this graphic, but I needed to get back to my inbox

Many people don’t realize how much time they are actually wasting when it comes to checking their mail. Here are some tips to help you combat this addiction:

1. Set a specific time when you check your email so that it doesn’t interfere with your concentration and work. (We’re thinking 2-3 times a day)

2. Turn off email notifications to your desktop, phone and other devices, so you can get more in-depth in the task at hand.

3. Don’t use your inbox as an excuse to neglect work you might not look forward to doing.

4. Remember, if it is urget – they will call you!

Hard to imagine those days before email isn’t it? We can’t really, because we are under 30. But good luck to those trying to kick this nasty habit!
