Earlier today, Mashable reported that Facebook is testing new ‘smart’ friend lists and News Feed filters. These features, while

"That's the ticket!"

seemingly carbon-copies of Google+’s circles feature, add a few new twists that you might not expect.

For one, Smart friend lists will automatically categorize classmates, coworkers, and interacted-with friends; all based on their proximity to where you live. It’s a cool idea, and if they pull it off right, I’ll probably end up ignoring Google+ even more than I already am (did I mention that I don’t like Google+?)

Facebook friend lists already offer this level of content-sharing customization, but you’ll have to sort all of your friends first–and only about 5% of users actually use the feature.

It will be interesting to see if Facebook becomes more versatile with friend listing than Google+. These new features are a good start, and we’re especially excited about Smart Lists, and how well they’ll actually function.
