Facebook is riding the recent wave of social media activity caused by the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the contentious DOMA. The decision basically makes it illegal to deny benefits to the partner of legally married same sex couples.

Facebook is launching a new Pride icon. To use this icon in your status update click in the status update field and then click on the smiley face icon. Click on the Feeling icon and then start to type in pride. Pride will pop up and then click on it.

Zuckerburg has even posted a status update incorporating the new hashtag function: “I’m proud that our country is moving in the right direction, and I’m happy for so many of my friends and their families. #PrideConnectUCapture

Facebook has worked closely with GLAAD and other groups to create a more inclusive environment for the LGBT community. Facebook has added the options to select “in a civil union” and “in a domestic partnership” to users relationship statuses. Facebook, in 2012, has added same-sex icons for married couples.
