Maybe so! Here are the facts:
Twitter has about 1 billion users world-wide, about 241 million tweets per day and in the U.S., about 48 million users are projected in 2014. Older users tend to engage in more ads and Twitter is projected to grow a more mature audience over the next few years, projecting by 2018 the 25 – 34 year old age group will match the teen users (12 -17 years old).
- Twitter tends to be less social and more about communicating with prospects, like-minded people and businesses. This lets you find and grow your target audience easily. It’s also a great way to keep up on current trends using the hashtag feature.
- The 140 character limit keeps your message to-the-point, which allows you greater efficiency.
- It’s a great way to connect you with your customers while allowing you to provide good customer service.
But is Twitter right for you? Yasmin Bendror via Y Marketing Matters has three simple questions you should consider first:

Make a list of your target audience demographics, and compare it to the user demographics of Twitter. Americans make up 24.3% of monthly active users on Twitter. 27% of users in the USA comprise of 18-29 years olds, 16% are between 30-40.
- Do you have the human resources available to effectively run your Twitter profile? Statistics show a business should tweet quality content at least 4-5 times per day, answer, comment and connect with followers as well as outreach to new followers.
- Do you have the financial resources to grow your followers with advertising on Twitter? This will help you get your brand name out there and grow your followers. Work on a budget for what you can afford to spend on Twitter on a weekly or monthly basis.
