Build it and they will come….right?
Too bad you won’t actually see this pop up…
That is right, but that doesn’t mean ‘publish it and they will like’. Your online presence is a living breathing part of your physical store – it is where your customers find you, when you’re not even open! It’s where they interact with you, when they can’t be with you physically. Local fans and fans from around the world like your page for the same reason they ‘friend’ other Facebookers – because they like you and they want to know what you’re up to!

Not sure if you’re on top of it? Keep reading to know if you’re on the right track…

1. Know you need it

Don’t blow it off – it is important! Minutes a day, EVERYDAY, make a difference. You don’t have to update everday, but if someone has asked you a question and it takes 3 days to answer it, chances are they don’t care anymore – It’s the same as ignoring somebody at your cash register, people don’t appreciate it! You can adjust your Facebook notification settings to send Email alerts whenever someone posts on your business page wall (you’re checking your email everyday right??) Have a smart phone? Sync it to your phone to know instantly! A prompt polite response goes a long way (24 hours or less).

2. Know your fans

Here’s a hint, they’re your customers! Be informative, but give them some credit. Tell them something they might not know, but make them feel like they’re an insider. They give you business, they liked your page, reward them – appreciate them! What would you like to see from pages you are fans of? Still not sure what they want, ask them in person!

3. Know your metrics

If you have never checked your Facebook insights, you’re missing a big piece of the puzzle! Facebook insights are Mark Zuckerberg’s gift to business page owners. Anything you could ever want to know: Demographics, Likes, Active Users, Feedback, Post views, Like Sources, Tab Views, Media Consumption – these are the vital stats of your page and they cannot be ignored!

Can’t make sense of the graphs, numbers, and percentages? You better…

4. Know when to hire an expert!

You’re too busy to update, fan questions are going unanswered, spam is cluttering your wall, your fan growth has stalled (or never ever started). Maybe you don’t know what you’re doing, maybe you think you know but can’t understand why you’re page isn’t successful. Maybe you should bring in some reinforcements? Maybe a social media manager knows something you don’t! There are so many good tips online on how to build your page, you’ve read them, and you’re still not where you need to be. Hiring someone to be responsible for your online presence will be one of the best decisions you could make. You can’t be an expert at everything, you are working shifts in your business, paying bills, sorting out employee issues, managing your management – time to outsource!
